Another sorry Saturday with a second and two thirds, at least the weather was hot if the tipping wasn't; perhaps I should stick to midweek punting.
It’s that time of year when I like to take a look at possible classic contenders for next season and to date only two horses really stand out for me, and looking at the betting for the bookies also. Memory is the outstanding filly and Strong Suit looks to be the best colt at this time. The two are short enough at this stage with over ten months to the Guineas, Memory about 8-1 and Strong Suit 5-1, but I shall be having a small long term investment on both. I will of course be keeping a beady eye on the major two-year-old races during the second half of the season as we probably haven’t seen all of the potential stars just yet and of course there are plenty of potential improvers out there.
Already a star in my eyes I was very happy to read that Starspangledbanner will be staying in training and not returning to Australia for stud duties. There is a possibility the colt may be given a run over a mile at some stage, he won the Caulfield Guineas back in Oz, and of course there is the very real chance of a tilt at the Breeders Cup Sprint at the end of the season.
